Step-by-Step Guide to Succession Planting in Seedtime

1. Introduction (0:00-0:06)

  • Learn how to set up and manage succession planting in Seedtime for a continual harvest in your garden.

2. Adding a Succession Planting (0:06-0:23)

Steps:

  1. Use the menu of a planting and select Add Succession Planting.

  2. Seedtime will automatically add the succession planting with default succession spacing based on the crop.

3. Adjusting Succession Spacing (0:23-0:52)

Steps:

  1. Click on any task in the planting and scroll to the Harvesting Task in the schedule.

  2. Locate the Succession Spacing field (measured in weeks).

  3. Edit the spacing to your preference, and Seedtime will apply this spacing for future successions.

  4. Save changes and add successions as needed.

4. Managing Overlapping Succession Plantings (0:52-1:38)

Steps:

  1. Ensure you click on the correct planting before adding a succession.

    • For example, if adding a succession to "Lettuce Planting #1," select it in the menu to avoid overlap with existing successions.

  2. If a duplicate planting occurs, delete the unnecessary one.

5. Planning for a Continual Harvest (1:43-2:18)

Steps:

  1. Use succession planting to stagger harvests by setting new planting dates to follow the harvest dates of previous crops.

  2. Ensure your successions are spaced to create a seamless transition from one harvest to the next.

6. Managing Space in Your Garden (2:18-2:51)

Steps:

  1. Plan for succession plantings by considering the time each crop will be in the ground.

    • Example: Ensure one crop is harvested before transplanting the next in its space.

  2. Adjust the transplanting date of the next crop if needed.

    • Turn off the lock task series to move tasks independently, then turn it back on to maintain dependencies.

  3. Schedule the new planting to follow the harvest completion of the previous crop.

7. Practical Uses of Succession Planting (2:51-3:07)

Applications:

  1. Set up a continual harvest by managing overlapping planting and harvesting schedules.

  2. Optimize garden space by ensuring that new crops are planted as soon as old crops are removed.

8. Conclusion (3:07-3:16)

  • Succession planting helps you maximize your garden's productivity by staggering harvests and optimizing space.

  • Experiment with adding and adjusting successions to create the best plan for your garden.
